As a Vice President of Product Research, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Cengage. This position will lead research across and for our product teams. What You’ll Do Here:

  • Lead the Market Research Center of Excellence (CoE) at Cengage, a team of highly impactful researchers who partner with product management to understand current and future user behaviors and needs

  • Own the scope and overall agenda of the CoE through annual planning with product, strategy, commercial, and other Cengage teams

  • Execute large-scale, strategic research projects that determine the overall direction of our business

  • Oversee teams of researchers working on student, instructor, and UX research

  • Ensure alignment of research initiatives across teams

  • Build and cultivate direct relationships with clients, vendors, and partners.

  • Analyze current business processes, recommend improvements, and lead change.

Key responsibilities

  1. Define and deliver market research priorities for Cengage, in support of Cengage’s growth agenda, student focus, product development across technology platforms and disciplines
  • Guide the annual research planning process

  • Determine how we can support product development with cadence of major research projects, in coordination with teams across Product, Technology, and Go-To-Market teams

  1. Lead the Market Research CoE, covering product and technology research across our Higher Ed, Skills, and Technology teams
  • Supervise creation of best practices, methodology guidance, and implementation / training across teams

  • Supervise research conducted with and for product and technology teams

  • Identify and implement new opportunities to deliver value to our product creation process through better customer insight

  1. Manage the most critical projects that span across our product teams
  • Execute large-scale cross-product / cross-platform research projects

In delivering these projects the VP will lead a product research team, UX researchers, and analyst resources.


  • Education, Experiences and Skills You Will Need Here:

  • MBA or equivalent in education and experience

  • 2+ years leading projects at a top-tier management consulting firm, including projects with significant qualitative and quantitative market

  • 2+ years in general management, including significant customer/consumer insights responsibility, preferred

  • Track record of achievement in delivering large, complex projects and influencing business outcomes.

  • Demonstrated success in maintaining perspective and focusing on the key priorities for the entire business.

  • Proven record as a good team player with an understanding of how to deliver both personal and team goals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.

  • Highly developed analytical skills and data savvy.

  • Capacity to work independently or as part of a team with a “roll up your sleeves” approach.

  • Thought leadership demonstrating creativity and innovation in identifying solutions and persuading others to a course of action.

  • Ability to challenge ideas and norms with thoughtful arguments.

  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, and facilitation skills.
