The Program Management Office (PMO) is the strategic planning and execution arm of Cengage’s Global Product Technology organization. Our team of generalists oversee strategic, cross-functional initiatives that have the power to transform digital learning and advance student achievement. Our Program Managers are the “grease” that drive our programs from initiation to market launch. They are the go-to person in each initiative that ensures we’re focused on the highest-value work, that gets our programs up and running quickly, and that makes sure they stay moving in the right direction and with transparency to achieve our strategic objectives.

We are looking for a talented Program Manager to join our team in Boston. The role will be high-visibility and will offer exciting challenges in problem solving, collaboration and communication, cross-team orchestration, and day-to-day team management and leadership. 



Responsibilities:

  • Orchestrate, coordinate and drive work across all program teams and stakeholders for all phases of a program, including initiative ideation, development & testing, content integration, deployment, and go to market

  • Ensure work is sufficiently defined, prioritized based on value, and well understood by execution teams

  • Create unified forecasts and schedules for the Program, inclusive of the entire initiative life cycle

  • Drive all communication up and down the organization on program health, including creating insights and reporting on key milestones and metrics

  • Proactively flag (and/or solve!) roadblocks, dependencies, and tradeoffs across all program teams and stakeholders, from software engineering to product management and sales teams

  • Ensure roadblocks and tradeoff decisions are diagnosed, framed and communicated correctly, and resolved quickly and efficiently with the right stakeholders

  • Identify and communicate needs of the program within any team (content, software, etc.) to ensure the program is set up for success

  • Represent the program in all strategic planning activities as needed, including finance and budgeting

  • Identify and apply best practices for program management, in alignment with other “big bets” programs

  • Discover and drive execution of strategic and process-related improvements across all programs

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent Master’s degree from top tier institution strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree required

  • 2 to 5 years of work experience in management consulting, program or project management, and/or tech strategy or operations

  • Proven ability to deliver large projects and programs successfully without having direct authority over all teams

  • Tenacity and flexibility; does whatever it takes to solve a problem, but can also pivot and change direction based on the input and feedback of others

  • Exceptional relationship building skills; able to gain trust of diverse stakeholders from the CTO to the entry-level software engineer

  • Ability to understand and lead others through ambiguous situations

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment

  • Knowledge of software development practices (e.g. Agile/Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence) preferred

  • Ability to manage a significant level of detail without losing sight of the big picture

  • Exceptional written communication skills; able to synthesize the most critical insights from large amounts of information and develop logical storylines in PowerPoint

  • Expert at running high-functioning meetings, including facilitating productive conversations, driving to decisions efficiently, and effectively balancing advocacy and inquiry
