Cengage Learning Engineering Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

Overview:

Working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional Agile environment, the Engineering Manager owns all aspects of delivery for core Cengage integration efforts. Our Core Systems operate in the AWS cloud and provide 1M+ students with reliable access to our learning platforms, on a 24/7 basis. Our core integrations enable and retain revenue streams tied to all major Learning Management Systems as well as third party partnerships. Tied to these efforts is over 60% of our student traffic. Working closely with both internal and third party engineering teams, the Engineering Manager leads initiatives that deliver tangible value to our students as they engage with their course materials and curriculum. • You enable agile development best practices conformant to the CengageWay (based on the SAFE framework and Scrum)

  • You are unwilling to compromise the reliability, performance and scale of your platform for our growing student base

  • With your team you take point on high priority escalations and you remain willing to jump in and help other teams that may need your assistance

  • You stay ahead of possible customer-impacting outages through the use of intelligent monitors

  • You operate in a cloud environment, work towards continuous delivery, understand orchestration and leverage it to guarantee uptime

  • You understand that DevOps best practices start from you and your team

  • You will ensure consistent use of Jira and Reporting

  • Pairing up with your architects and tech leads you propose and drive design decisions, look for opportunities to improve your platform so that it remains technically current, and continue to service customers that require backward compatibility

  • Although coding is not a key duty or responsibility, you are not afraid to code, will support the rigor behind code reviews and participate in them
