Cengage Learning Director, Digital Content in Boston, Massachusetts

Overview:

The Director, Digital Content executes end-to-end digital product plans for National Geographic Learning. This position closely aligns with product teams to create, deliver, and support digital content. This position manages a team of Digital Product Managers and coordinates with other technology support groups within Cengage (QA, platform, tech support) to bring world class product to market. Products include, but not limited to video, CD-ROM, interactive ebooks, interactive white boards, web-based products, products hosted on learning management systems (LMS), and mobile technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualizes / develops / project manages all digital products as determined in conjunction with the product teams on schedule and within budgets

  • Benchmarks competitive products and conducts research in order to determine best solutions

  • Provides budget and costs for all digital products for financial proposals (IPS)

  • Develops proposals with enough detail for digital platform teams to build functional specifications

  • Ensures detailed product development schedules are created and maintained across groups in order to manage interdependencies

  • Hires and manages Digital Product Managers and other key team members

  • Ensures a full QA process for products that release to market

  • Creates systems and tools for building digital content that help reduce costs and that facilitate the publishing process

  • Responsible for all contracts and work-for-hire agreements associated with digital product

  • Coordinates with Cengage tech support groups and follows established policies for escalation and resolution of issues and bugs

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Basic (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 7 years’ project management experience with digital products

  • Minimum 7 years’ team management experience

  • Prior software development experience

  • Strong command of issues surrounding development of digital products

  • Ability to manage budgets as well as work effectively with teams and authors

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Preferred

  • Educational publishing or related experience

  • International product experience
